NPB Commissioner Ryozo Kato told reporters on Wednesday that he would like to see the league continue using the new regulation ball introduced this season.
"My thoughts on the baseball have not changed since we first introduced it," said Kato. "We will hold deliberations [over the new ball], but the areas that need improvement are the managers, coaches, and players."
He also said, "I will not deny that home runs are big in baseball. But it can make things dull. Everyone likes baseball for different reasons. ... We need [the new baseball] to help us develop power hitters that can make a different during international tournaments. Players like [Sho] Nakata, [Yoshitomo] Tsutsugo, [Kenta] Kurihara, and [Nobuhiro] Matsuda did a good job of hitting the ball."
