12/31/2011: Tsuyoshi Wada, Hideki Matsui

by on Dec.31, 2011 @ 1:09 pm, under MLB

Tsuyoshi Wada spoke at the Fukuoka Convention Center on Friday and looked back on his nine-year career with the Hawks and looked forward to his future in the Majors.

Hideki Matsui will spend New Years in Nomi, Ishikawa.  He plans to begin his workouts, indoors, next year in early January.

Kodai Sakurai (released by the Hanshin Tigers) wants to continue playing baseball and will expand his search to teams outside of Japan.

Said Sakurai, "I will not give up until I have exhausted all options. ... This is not about money.  I will play anywhere.  I want to get it out of my system."

Sakurai was drafted out of PL Gakuen High School in 2001.  He made the active roster in 2007 but could not nail down an everyday job.  In 2010 he injured his right elbow and ended up going under the knife on 11/16/2010.  Sakurai was hoping to stage some sort of a comeback this season, but could not manage it (he did play in 62 games at Ni-gun: 28-for-138, .203/.321/.333).
