Chunichi Dragons

Motonobu Tanishige worked out for about an hour and a half at a track and field stadium in Yokohama on Friday.  He also did some weight training at a gym.

===

Takuya Asao does not plan on throwing any off-speed pitches during spring camp until he is satisfied with his fastball.

===

Morimichi Takagi would apparently like to be tossed up into the air by fans.

Takagi also told reporters on Thursday that he plans to begin the year with Hirokazu Ibata at second.

===

The Dragons are thinking about converting Ryoji Nakata to a third baseman.

Yakult Swallows

Yoshinori worked out with his younger brother Takanori Sato in Sendai on Friday.  Yoshiori plans to begin tossing bullpen sessions during with workouts in Saipan (he leaves on 1/10).

===

The media learned on Thursday that the Swallows will be increasing the number of Ichi-gun trainers from three to four this year -- they will be calling up Ni-gun chief trainer Satoshi Baba (? 馬場智志).

===

Yasushi Iihara currently weighs about 87kg.  That is about 5kg more than he weighed at the end of the season.  He is looking to add one to two more kilograms.

Yomiuri Giants

The 2011 draft class moved into the player dorms on Friday.

===

Shinnosuke Abe, Tetsuya Utsumi, and the rest of the players currently in Guam took part in a charity event to raise money for northern Japan on Friday.  About 300 people attended the event.

===

Hirokazu Sawamura is planning to eat five to six meals a day (including about 500-600 grams of meat each meal) during his training session in Guam.  Sawamura was at about 93kg during fall camp last year and is currently at around 96kg (he has gained about 5kg since the end of the season).  He's hoping to push that another one to two kilograms before beginning a weight training program to burn off the fat.

===

Hayato Sakamoto worked out for about two hours at Giants Stadium on Thursday (played some catch, took some grounders).  Sakamoto will be attending the training session Shinya Miyamoto (YAK) plans to hold in Matsuyama beginning on 1/7.

Sakamoto also cut his hair short back in late-December.

Hanshin Tigers

The 2011 draft class moved into the player dorms on Friday.  Joint training for the 2011 draft class begins at Naruohama on 1/8.

===

The Tigers have invited Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido instructor Tomio Watanabe (? 渡辺富夫) to give the coaches a lecture during spring camp.

===

Tomoaki Kanemoto did nine reps of squats at 160kg and six reps at 170kg on Thursday.  That is close to the ten reps at 170kg he was able to do in 2000.  And the last time he was actually able to do 170kg was in 2006 -- he had knee surgeries in 2007 and 2008 and had right shoulder problems in 2010.

Hiroshima Carp

Akihiro Higashide worked out at Mazda Stadium on Friday.

===

The Carp will continue to wait on Hiroki Kuroda until he makes his decision.  They figure a decision will be made by around mid-January.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Registered name changes:

Keijiro Matsumoto to Keijiro

Taketora to Taketora  Anzai

7th round draft pick Hyuma Matsui will be registered as Hyuma.

===

The Bay Stars hired Takashi Yoshida (65) to be their new Scouting Director on Thursday.

The media also learned on Thursday that they hired Shun Kakazu (30) as assistant GM.

===

Kiyoshi Nakahata is thinking about visiting the Ginowan and Kadena spring camp facilities on 1/15.  He then plans to visit the Ginowan City offices on 1/16 to discuss improvements that he would like to see made (like increasing the area in the bullpen so that more pitchers can pitch).

Nakahata turned 58 on Friday.

    Regarding the Dragons and Ryoji Nakata, do you know where Chunichi is planning to put their No. 1 pick from this year?

      Third base, from what I heard. But Shuhei Takahashi was drafted out of high school so a lot can still change. I think the team may have fewer options with Nakata in terms of positions he can play.
