Softbank Hawks

Tadashi Settsu visited Yahoo Dome on Saturday in order to organize his things -- he plans to begin his workouts on Sunday in Kyushu.

Seiichi Uchikawa visited Yahoo Dome on Saturday in order to gather things he will need for the workouts he plans to begin in Oita on Monday.

Yuya Hasegawa appeared on a TV program on Saturday and said he was prepared to hit anywhere in the batting order, including lead-off.  Hasegawa has been quoted in the past as saying that he did not like batting first.

Nagisa ArakakiHidenori Tanoue, Hideaki Takahashi, Hiroshi Shibahara made appearances at an event supporting Kyushu Kyoritsu University graduate baseball players.

The media learned on Friday that Nobuhiko Matsunaka turned down a two-year deal because he wanted to focus on making this a comeback year (and because there was not enough time to work out a multi-year deal).  The deal has not yet been finalized and since Matsunaka took off for Guam on Friday, his agent will take over on negotiations.  Matsunaka will sign after he returns to Japan on 1/28.

Matsunaka finished off a seven-year deal in 2011 that began with a set salary of 500M yen over the first four year and moved over to a sliding scale beginning in the fifth year.

5th round draft pick Shinya Kayama's father has 11 brothers/sisters, giving Kamaya 130 cousins.  His paternal grandmother is also 98 years old.

Seibu Lions

All six members of the 2011 draft class have moved into the player dorm: 3rd round draft pick Hitoto Komazuki and Ikusei 1st round draft pick Komei Fujisawa moved into the player dorm on Friday.  The other four, first round draft pick Ken Togame, 2nd round draft pick Hirotaka Koishi, 4th round draft pick Kyohei Nagae, and 5th round draft pick Shotaro Tashiro, moved in on Saturday.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Sho Nakata worked out with Tsuyoshi Nishioka in Suita, Osaka on Saturday.

Yoshio Itoi will be using a slightly longer and heavier bat, modeled after Yomiuri Giants' Shinnosuke Abe's bat, in 2012 -- from 33.5 inches to 40 inches and from around 915 grams to 920 grams.

Hisashi Takeda would like, at the very least, to extend his 50+ appearance streak to seven consecutive seasons.  On Friday, Takeda worked out at the Nippon Tsuun training facilities.

Takahiro Imanami played catch with his left hand on Friday and told reporters he was influenced not by Yu Darvish (also known for throwing with his non-dominant arm in order to keep himself balanced), but by a baseball manga he is currently reading.

Rakuten Eagles

Teppei worked out for about six hours with Fuminori Yokogawa (RAK), Aoi Enomoto (RAK), Naoto Watanabe (YOK) and Toshiki Kurobane (YOK) at Tateyama Sports Park in Chiba on Saturday.  Workouts included playing some futsal indoors, running, playing catch, and taking BP.

Masahiro Tanaka began his workouts with Yu Darvish in Miyazaki on Friday.  Other players like Masaru Nakamura (HAM) and Kenji Tsuchiya (HAM) are also part of a group working out with Darvish.

Hiroshi Katayama worked out at Kleenex Stadium on Friday.  Katayama is planning to continue polishing the shuto he learned during fall camp.

Tomohiro Tsuchiya will be working out with Shinichiro Koyama in Okinawa later this month.  The two also worked out together at Kleenex Stadium on Friday.
