Chunichi Dragons

Kazuhiro Wada took part in a talk session held in Ichinomiya, Aichi on Sunday.  About 1,000 fans attended the event.

6th round draft pick Sang-Hoon Son moved into the player dorm on Sunday, a day earlier than the others.

Ryoji Nakata is currently working out with Masahiro Araki in Kumamoto.  On Saturday, he took grounders at third, short and second.

Said Nakata, "Limiting myself to first narrows down my options.  If I can even increase the number of positions I can play by one, then I might also see more playing time.  I want to give this a shot."

It took Araki about 50 minutes to climb up 3,333 steps on Saturday.

Takuya Asao will be heading out to Guam, with players like Hirokazu Ibata, within the next few days.

Akifumi Takahashi worked out at Nagoya Stadium on Saturday and told reporters he planned to toss a bullpen session on the first day of spring camp.  Takahashi had problems with his left shoulder last season and spent most of the year at Ni-gun (he only made two appearance at Ichi-gun).

Yakult Swallows

Ikusei 2nd round draft pick Hugo Kanabushi moved into the player down on Sunday.

Shinya Miyamoto does not think the Swallows made enough moves this winter.

Yomiuri Giants

The joint training session for the 2011 draft class begin today.

Practices lasted about three hours and included running, playing catch, and fielding practice in the morning and strengthening exercises in the afternoon.  The 2011 draft class also spent some time signing autographs before lunch.

Hayato Sakamoto worked out in Matsuyama with Shinya Miyamoto (YAK) on Sunday.  Sakamoto is hoping to get some tips on how to improve his fielding (and maybe some help on his hitting as well).

Hisayoshi Chono would like to ultimately continue the tradition of taking groups of Yomiuri players to Guam for training exercises during the winter.  If he does, it could cost him upwards of 5M yen -- 350,000 yen a day for a place to stay, about 8,000 yen a day to rent a stadium, and various other costs, including what it takes to maintain a staff of about three (BP pitcher, chef, and trainer).

Tetsuya Utsumi told reporters that he would like to see Tetsuya Yamaguchi and Shun Tono continue the tradition for the pitcher's group.

Shuichi Murata arrived in Amamioshima on Saturday.  Murata has been working on keeping his weight down during the winter (he gained about two to three kilograms after the season, but has maintained his weight at 95kg).

Kenjiro Tsuruoka, Yuta Naito, and Yoshitomo Tsutsugo will be working out with Murata in Amamioshima.

1st round draft pick Ryuya Matsumoto worked out for about two hours on Saturday and played catch for the first time in 2012.

Hanshin Tigers

Training camp for the 2011 draft class began today at the Naruohama training facilities.  2nd round draft pick Hiroaki Saiuchi got a late start due to a right ankle sprain he suffered in December.

Practices lasted about five hoursYutaka Wada watched over practices.

Four Tigers took part in a charity auction and autograph session at Asahi Auto Center in Amagasaki, Hyogo on Sunday.  An Atsushi Nomi game-worn uniform was auctioned off for 151,000 yen.

Shinjiro Hiyama practiced outdoors on Saturday for the first time since he fractured his left collarbone.  He also started playing catch (42 throws at a max distance of about 20 meters, his first game of catch in over a month).  He will return to Japan on Sunday for a physical and then return to Guam to continue his training (depending on the results of his exam).

As the team's player's group chairman, Kentaro Sekimoto had the following to say to the 2011 draft class: mind your manners, do not get hurt, and do not forget your amateur playing days.

1st round draft pick Hayata Ito took about 200 pitches during BP on Saturday (about 100 for soft toss and about 100 in the cages cages).  He also took about 100 pitches in the cages the night before. ... 3rd round draft pick Naoto Nishida was warned about wearing ankle socks (the team wants him to wear long socks). ... 4th round draft pick Kazuo Ito gained about 5kg and is currently at about 90kg.  His ideal weight is 85kg.

Yuya Ando threw 61 pitches in the bullpen at Naruohama on Saturday (31 to a standing catcher and 30 to a squatting catcher); Takashi Shimizu caught the session. Ando also has plans to workout in Okinawa later this month.

Atsushi Nomi is thinking about heading to Okinawa on 1/12 and staying there until spring camp begins.  Regarding his salary negotiations, he figures he will have enough time to deal that before leaving.

Hiroshima Carp

Takuro Ishii worked out with Tetsuya Kokubo at Mazda Stadium on Sunday.  Workouts included running, playing catch, BP, and fielding practice.  Ishii will continue his workouts at Mazda Stadium until 1/19.

Team owner Hajime Matsuda told reporters he felt Takahiro Iwamoto could stand to lose a little weight and tone up a bit.  Iwamoto told reporters he was around around 100kg and that he will naturally lose weight once spring camp starts.

Yoshihiro Maru gained about two kilograms since the end of the season (from 82kg to 84kg).  He is hoping to add about another kilogram before the start of spring camp.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Daisuke Miura will begin workouts in Atsugi, Kanagawa on Tuesday.  Yuki Kuniyoshi and Hiroshi Kobayashi are also expected to join him.

Keijiro Matsumoto, Takeshi Hosoyamada, and Noriharu Yamazaki will be joining Seiichi Uchikawa (SOF) on Monday for his workouts in Oita.
