Yomiuri Giants: Yoshinobu Takahashi heads to Okinawa to continue training

by on Jan.09, 2012 @ 10:44 pm, under NPB

Team Abe and Team Utsumi began their second block of training in Guam on Monday (they all took Sunday off).

Yoshinobu Takahashi, Daisuke Nakai, and Tomoya Inzen took off for Okinawa out of Haneda Airport today.

The 2011 draft class had their fat content measured during practices today.  1st round draft pick Ryuya Matsumoto passed with 14%.  Numbers for Ikusei 2nd round draft pick Kazuki Mori and Ikusei 4th round draft pick Chikara Yoshikawa were apparently high as they "failed" to pass the test.

They also checked to see how many sit-ups players could do.  Ikusei 6th round draft pick Takahiro Watanabe led the group with 36 in 30 seconds.  4th round draft pick Kyosuke Takagi, 7th round draft pick Seiji Tahara, and Ikusei 3rd round draft pick Shogo Shibata all managed 32 or more sit-ups.  Matsumoto finished with 27.  Incidentally, the Giants set 32 as the lower limit.

Hayato Sakamoto and Takayuki Terauchi are both taking part in the training camp held by Shinya Miyamoto (YAK) in Matsuyama, Ehime.

The Giants' scouts will be meeting sometime over the next week or so in order to discuss their plans for 2012.  It will be the first meeting for the scouting department since the new front office came together.
