The Tigers staff and front office held a party to celebrate the New Year at a hotel in Osaka on Tuesday.  Owner Shinya Sakai, president Nobuo Minami, and Yutaka Wada were amongst those in attendance.

The Tigers held a 2km run during training camp for the 2011 draft class on Tuesday.  5th round draft pick Ryoma Matsuda finished in first and 1st round draft pick Hayata Ito finished in second.  They were followed by 3rd round draft pick Naoto Nishida, 4th round draft pick Kazuo Ito, and Ikusei 1st round draft pick Seiya Hirokami.

===

Atsushi Nomi met with the Tigers for a third time on Tuesday and finally agreed to a deal worth 100M yen (up 45M yen).  While the amount offered by the Tigers did not change from their last meeting, Nomi was satisfied with how negotiations went -- he was able to speak his mind and the hold-up had nothing to do with money.

Minoru Iwata is hoping to pick up some pointers on how to effectively throw/use the fastball from Toshiya Sugiuchi (YOM) during their current workouts in Satsumasendai, Kagoshima.

Slightly older news...

The Tigers decided to re-assign Yasuhiro Nakamura to the PR department so that he can provide 1st round draft pick Ito with PR support.

Ito is also planning to try six different bats, made by Hi-Gold and Rawlings, during spring camp.  All six bats are 86cm long and weigh either 900 grams or 920 games.

Hiroshima Carp

Kenta Maeda dropped by Mazda Stadium on Tuesday to organize his things and to prepare for his training session in Okinawa (he leaves on 1/13).

===

Kenta Kurihara dropped about 4kg (from 102kg to 98kg) during his training session in the US.
