Nippon Ham Fighters: Sho Nakata gets married to a woman living in Osaka

by on Jan.12, 2012 @ 5:32 pm, under NPB

Training camp for the 2011 draft class began at Kamagaya today.  Workouts began at 10am, lasted about five hours, and included running and trunk strengthening exercises in the morning and weight training in the afternoon.  Hideki Kuriyama was also on hand to watch the workouts.

Sho Nakata (22) filed marriage papers with a 22-year-old woman living in Osaka on Wednesday.  When Nakata first joined the Fighters, he told reporters he wanted to be married by the time he turned 23 and that he loved kids.

Nakata has been pushing himself fairly hard so far this year -- he started workouts on January 1 at Athlete (gym in Hiroshima); began workouts with Tsuyoshi Nishioka on January 7; and plans to head to Hawaii, with his trainer Kevin Yamazaki, to continue his training after he closes out his workouts with Nishioka on January 20.

Yuki Saito was apparently spotted going to Ise Jingu for New Year prayers with freelance reporter Maya Kobayashi.  On Wednesday, Softbank Hawks' chairman Sadaharu Oh told reporters that he thought those kinds of rumors were ok and that Saito just needs to learn how to tell the media to leave him alone.

The media learned on Wednesday that the Fighters unofficially decided to have Hiroki Mita (chief of the PR group) help Hideki Kuriyama keep track of media requests.  Mita has also helped players like Yu Darvish and Saito handle the media in the past.

The Fighters held a scout meeting in Kamagaya on Wednesday to go over their plans for this year.  GM Masao Yamada told reporters that the team was not going to give up on 1st round draft pick Tomoyuki Sugano until the deadline passes.

2nd round draft pick Go Matsumoto has selected red as his "theme color."

7th round draft pick Takumi Oshima is having a bit of a hard time getting used to the baseball catcher's mitt because it is completely different than softball catcher's mitt he is used to.  Said Oshima, "The catcher's mitt in softball is very similar to a baseball first baseman's glove."
