Manabu Kitabeppu and Tsunemi Tsuda elected into HoF

The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced today that the Players Selection Committee elected Manabu Kitabeppu (北別府 学) and Tsunemi Tsuda (津田 恒実) from the Players Division and no one from the Expert Division. The Special Selection Committee elected Kiro Osafune (長船 騏郎) and Osamu Omoto (大本 修).

Kiro Osafune was involved in running the Tokyo Big 6 and the Japan Student Baseball Association.  He also made it as chairman of the Baseball Federation of Japan.  Osafune was involved in selecting players/personnel for the national team during the 2000 and 2004 Olympics.  He passed away in 2007 at the age of 83.  (Nikkan Sports)

Osamu Omoto held a PhD in engineering and taught at places like MIT and Shibaura Kogyo University.  He was a fan of baseball and conducted research on metal bat safety.  Omoto also spent time as an advisor to the NPB Commissioner and an advisor to the Japan High School Federation.  He passed away in 2008 at the age of 83.  (Nikkan Sports)

UPDATE 1/14 @ 6:38pm - According to Jiji Press, players needed at least 236 votes to make it this year -- Kitabeppu received 257 and Tsuda 237. Greg "Boomer" Wells apparently received 223.
