Yomiuri Giants: January 15, 2012

by on Jan.16, 2012 @ 12:05 am, under NPB

Shuichi Murata worked out in Amamioshima on Sunday and told reporters that he has managed to keep his weight around 95kg this winter (he usually weighs around 100kg this time of year).  Workouts were held indoors due to the rain and included fielding practice and BP.  Murata is currently working on making some changes to his batting mechanics, including dropping his hands down a little more.

The media learned on Saturday that Murata was given a 2011 Youthworker Award the by the Development Association for Youthworkers.  An awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 1/24.

Hayato Sakamoto took 15 pages of notes during his workouts with Shinya Miyamoto (1/7-1/13).  He know plans to take what he learned and teach it to some of the other players working out in Guam, like Daisuke Fujimura.

FYI: baseball analyst Isao Harimoto was a bit surprised that it took Sakamoto this long to finally learn the basics behind fielding.

The twelve Giants working out in Guam participated in a charity event at Outrigger Guam Resort on Saturday and raised US13,000 for relief efforts in northern Japan.  The Giants raised about US$4,000 during their last charity event in Guam on 1/6.

1st round draft pick Ryuya Matsumoto visited Shinjuku during his first day off and told reporters on Saturday he was thinking about visiting Shibuya during his next day off (which was Sunday).
