Yakult Swallows: Wladimir Balentien start the year at Ni-gun

Katsuki Akagawa is currently working out with Tsuyoshi Wada (and a number of other players) in Miyazaki.

Via Nikkan Sports - Junji Ogawa hinted that Wladimir Balentien could begin the year at Ni-gun due to the way he finished out his season last year.  He also told reporters that Orlando Roman was a candidate for the starting rotation.  That means the Swallows could begin 2012 with Roman, Lastings Milledge, Chang-Yong Lim, and Tony Barnette on the active roster.

Sanspo mentions that only Lim may have a guaranteed spot and that the other four foreign players will compete for the remaining three spots.

Ogawa apparently thought it was Orlando Maron instead of Orlando Roman.

He also told reporters on Tuesday that he wanted Shinya Miyamoto to collect the remaining 25 hits he needs to reach 2,000 some time during the first month of the season in order to give other younger players a shot, like Tetsuto Yamada.

The media learned on Tuesday that Yuki Shichijo was examined at a hospital on Monday after developing a fever and was diagnosed with the flu.  Shichijo is the second player on the team to get the flu this month.
