Norichika Aoki returned to the Japan on Thursday and said to reporters, "I am relieved to have finally made it to the starting line. My stay in the US felt long." Aoki is scheduled to hold a press conference in Tokyo today.
And the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt provides this update on Aoki's contract (via Nikkan Sports):
I don't know the details of the many incentives included in the deal, but the contract that Japanese OF Norichika Aoki signed with the Brewers this week guarantees salaries of $1 million in 2012 and $1.25 million in 2013.
That's probably less than most folks figured, but the more Aoki plays, the more he'll make with the incentives. There's also the matter that the Brewers paid a $2.5 million posting bid with the Yakult Swallows merely for the rights to negotiate with Aoki.
There's also an option and buyout for 2014, but I don't know what those figures are yet.
