Hanshin Tigers: January 23, 2012

by on Jan.23, 2012 @ 11:49 pm, under NPB

Tatsuro Hirooka visited Koshien today with Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido sensei Shinichi Tohei and spent about an hour and half giving Ichi-gun and Ni-gun coaches a lecture on the importance of proper posture.

===

Kohei Shibata got an MRI on Sunday and was diagnosed with inflammation in his right acromioclavicular joint (shoulder).  Shibata had been rehabbing at Koshien but will switch locations to Naruohama on Tuesday (January 24).

===

Kenji Jojima will begin spring camp working out at first because the Tigers are concerned about his left knee (it seems he also still can not squat for long amounts of time).  Jojima will probably not do any catching until mid-February.

===

Kyuji Fujikawa gave a lecture to the thirty or so players living in the player dorm on Sunday.  Amongst some of the things he spoke about during his hour long lecture that start around 3pm: his past experiences, how to maintain motivation, setting two goals (one you want to attain and another you need to attain), and how to treat equipment.

Fujikawa also spent about an hour and half working out after the lecture.

===

Hirokazu Shiranita threw 30 pitches (including off-speed pitches) in the bullpen on Sunday (squatting catcher).

===

Takumi Akiyama threw 46 pitches in the bullpen on Sunday (half-bent catcher).

===

Yutaka Wada told reporters that he will not only judge players on their potential/skill level, but also on what they do above and beyond that, like how vocal they are on the field.

===

The coaches will have all their players running during spring camp, even players like Craig Brazell.

===

The team was giving Masahiro Nakatani a look at third and the outfield during fall camp (in addition to his primary position catcher).  They will now most likely drop third and try him primarily in the outfield.

===

Circle K Sunkus will be selling pre-adevance ticket to 15 games beginning on February 14.  Information on special ticket packages have also been posted at the official team site.

The Tigers' spring camp page has been updated.
