Lastings Milledge has yet to step foot in Japan and already he is making headlines.

Yakult Milledge, misses his flight because of traffic

Sanspo reports that Milledge was scheduled to arrive in Japan on January 25, but he missed a flight out of Tampa (to Atlanta) because of traffic.

Yakult's problem suketto: Sleeping in?  Arrival delayed

While it has been reported that Milledge missed his flight because of traffic, Nikkan Sports wonders if he overslept.

Milledge was supposed to hop on an 8:30am domestic flight out of Tampa.  He apparently tried to find another flight by talking to a travel agent, but failed.  While his house is only about an hour away from the airport, he decided to stay at a hotel close to the airport to avoid additional delays (the Swallows will also be giving him a wake-up call).

Milledge is now scheduled to arrive at Narita Airport today on a flight out of Atlanta.

Sponichi

Yakult's new foreigner is a "bay boy"  Yakult, all within their expectations

Sponichi mentions Milledge's arrival delay and the problems he ran into while playing in the US.  The Swallows response: they know about his past, have set their expectations accordingly, and are so far not too worried about him.

Yakult's new foreigner  Missed his flight!  Will he arrive on the 26th?

Sponichi includes something about Milledge misreading the itinerary.

Sponichi also reports on past cases where players like Todd Betts (2003, the media mistook a tourist for Betts and started interviewing that individual as Betts watched) and Eulo De La Cruz (2010, arrival was reportedly delayed because of visa problems, but there are rumors had missed his flight because he went to the wrong airport) made headlines.

UPDATE @ 7:17pm - Milledge safely arrived in Japan today.

This goes back to my original statement. If Lastings were under Senichi Hoshino, I think he would end up in a dumpster in Osaka.
