Bullpen Sessions

  • 2nd round draft pick Yoshinao Kamata threw thirty-six pitches with Ni-gun battery coach Tomoyoshi Oishi behind the plate.  This was his first bullpen session during spring camp. (Sanspo)  Or, fifty-five total pitches with Oishi behind the plate for forty-seven pitches.  Standing catcher. (Sports Hochi)

Today was the end of the first block of spring camp for the Eagles.  The team has the day off tomorrow.

2nd round draft pick Yoshinao Kamata tossed a bullpen session on Tuesday.  It was his first session in about four months.  The reason why he waited four months was because he felt some discomfort in his right elbow the last time he threw off a mound (during Yamaguchi Kokutai in October).

Hiromoto Okubo and Senichi Hoshino both have their eyes on Fuminori Yokogawa.

While the outfield is full of possible options, like Ryo Hijirisawa, Luis Terrero, Akihisa Makida, and Teppei, as well as Toshiya Nakashima, and Masato Nakamura, Yokogawa does provide something the other may not: some pop from the left side.

During morning shout-outs, Wataru Karashima said he wanted to make the active roster on opening day and remain on the Ichi-gun roster.  He also said he wanted to find a girlfriend.

====== UPDATE 2/9 @ 2:02am

Masahiro Tanaka reverted back to pitching mechanics he used in 2011 during his bullpen session on Tuesday (or at least something similar).  Tanaka was struggling with the new mechanics Yu Darvish taught him when the two worked out this past winter.

Hoshino like Makida as his clean-up hitter because he wants long-term stability.  He also said that the suggestion was "70% joke and 30% real."
