Batting Practice Bullpen Sessions / Batting Practice


  • Kenji Jojima faced Atsushi Nomi during simulated batting practice and went hitless in three trips to the plate. (Sponichi)


  • Takashi Toritani took 204 swings during extra BP and hit forty-five over the fence. (Sponichi)
  • Masahiro Nakatani took 229 swings during extra BP and hit four over the fence. (Sanspo)


  • Jason Standridge faced Maashiro Nakatani and Issei Morita during batting practice and allowed two could-be hits on thirty-six pitches. (Sanspo, Nikkan Sports)
  • Randy Messenger threw twenty-eight pitches during batting practice and allowed three could-be hits. (Sanspo)
  • Daiki Enokida threw fifty-one pitches during batting practice and allowed eleven could-be hits. (Sanspo)
  • Hiroyuki Kobayashi gave up five could-be hits during batting practice. (Sanspo)


Today was the last day of the third block of spring camp.  The team has the day off tomorrow.


The Tigers announced today that 1st round draft pick Hayata Ito had a ganglion cyst removed from his right wrist with a syringe at a hospital in Okinawa after today's practice game with the Hiroshima Carp.  He is listed as day-to-day.


According to Sponichi, the first six spots in the line-up could go: Takashi Toritani, Keiichi Hirano, Takahiro Arai, Matt MurtonTomoaki Kanemoto, and Kenji Jojima/Craig Brazell.


Baseball analyst Kazuyoshi Tatsunami visited Ginoza camp on Monday.  He also spoke to 1st round draft pick Ito and gave him some tips on hitting.


During Kyuji Fujikawa's batting practice outing on Monday:

  • Takahiro Arai, Kentaro Sekimoto, and Keiichi Hirano each collected one could-be hit.
  • Takashi Toritani saw six pitches and did not record any could-be hits.
  • Fujikawa mixed in his curve, slider, fork, and shuto.  He threw shutos to Hirano and Toritani.

Fujikawa picked up the shuto for use against left-handed batters.

Nikkan Sports reports that 1st round draft pick Ito swung the bat 708 times during practices on Monday: 125 swings during soft-toss BP; 31 swings during outdoor BP; 190 swings during extended soft-toss BP; 227 swings during extra BP; and 135 swings while going around the stadium once.
