Nippon Ham Fighters: February 15, 2012

by on Feb.15, 2012 @ 11:59 pm, under NPB

The Fighters had the day off today.

Masaru Takeda, Ryota Imanari, and Mitsuo Yoshikawa checked out coral reef at a Marine Life Center in Ginowan on their day off today.

Yuki Saito is slated to start Thursday's practice game against the Yokohama Bay Stars.  He is expected to go three innings.

Saito threw ten sliders, eight change-ups, four cutters, and two two-seamers during his fifty-eight pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

On his day off today, Saito did some light workouts that included running and playing catch.

Hideki Kuriyama could end up using 7th round draft pick Takumi Oshima in a practice game against the Yokohama Bay Stars on Thursday.

Oshima did not collect any hits in Tuesday's game, but did manage to get on base twice (walk, HBP).  And while he managed get to third, from first, on a hit and run play in the 2nd inning, he botched things up on the base paths in the 3rd when he misjudged a fly ball to right -- he thought it was going to land for a hit -- and got doubled up at first.

In five games (exhibition + practice) Oshima has reached base seven out of eleven trips to the plate (three hits, four walks/HBPs).

FWIW: he once was hit ten times over a six game softball tournament.
