Batting Practice Bullpen Sessions / Batting Practice

Thursday

  • Takahiro Iwamoto took 145 swings during extra batting practice and hit one over the fence. (Sponichi)
  • Tomonori Maeda took 135 swings during lunchtime batting practice and collected fifty-nine could-be hits. (Daily Sports)

Friday

  • 1st round draft pick Yusuke Nomura threw 112 pitches in the bullpen.  It was his second session in as many days. (Sports Hochi)

Members of the organization, including Kenjiro Nomura, Ni-gun manager Junzo Uchida, Hiroshima players' rep chairman Akihiro Higashide, and GM Kiyoaki Suzuki, visited Udo Jingu Shrine today and prayed for a successful season.

With an umpire calling balls and strikes, 1st round draft pick Yusuke Nomura worked on hitting the corners of strike zone during his bullpen session today.

Masafumi Suenaga joined the Ichi-gun team for practice today.

Yuki Saito and Takeru Imamura filed their taxes online today (part of a PR event for Japan's e-Tax system).

Batting coach Itsuki Asai was not happy about how much heavier Takahiro Iwamoto looked during practices on Thursday.  Iwamoto told reporters he is currently at ninety-eight to ninety-nine kilograms (although it apparently seems like he is a lot heavier than that), which is about three to four kilograms heavier than his ideal weight.

Shota Nakazaki's next start will be against the Yomiuri Giants on Saturday.

Tomonori Maeda's (40) first day of workouts at Ichi-gun camp on Thursday included fielding practice, lunchtime batting practice, and extra indoor batting practice against a pitching machine for about an hour and a half.  The coaches have allowed Maeda to set his own training schedule.
