The Softbank Hawks announced that Takahiro Mahara successfully had his right shoulder (rotator cuff, glenoid labrum) cleaned out today.  A Hawks' trainer told reporters that Mahara will not be able to do anything throwing for two to three months and may ultimately miss up to six months.

In addition to an exhibition game start against Lotte on March 3, Tadashi Settsu will probably get four starts before opening day.

I would more or less rule out Mahara for the rest of the season, and maybe parts of next season depending on how his rehab goes. Hopefully it goes better than Kazumi Saitoh’s did (as far as I know Saitoh had his entire freaking shoulder rebuilt from scratch with him not having pitched since 2007).
