Nikkan Sports round up for practices on Tuesday:

  • Kosuke Fukudome's workouts lasted about three hours and included base-running, fielding practice in the outfield, and batting practice.
  • Seattle Mariners intra-squad game: Hisashi Iwakuma gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks over an inning of work; Ichiro Suzuki started in right, batted third, and went 1-for-3; Munenori Kawasaki started at second and batted seventh and went 1-for-2 with one RBI (RBI single to center off Iwakuma).
  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka stayed back after general workouts for extra batting practice.

Via Nikkan Sports, C.C. Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda are the only locks for New York Yankees' starting rotation.  The New York Post has more.  A snip:

Without throwing a pitch in a Yankees uniform, Hiroki Kuroda has copped one of the four spots behind CC Sabathia in manager Joe Girardi's rotation.

... "That's what we are looking at,'' Girardi said about Sabathia and Kuroda being definite rotation members. "You sign Kuroda to start and you sign all these guys to start. Kuroda has a big track history (starting).''

Arn Tellem visited the Texas Rangers' facilities in Surprise, AZ on Tuesday and told reporters talks involving Hideki Matsui have been very difficult and that he was hoping to hear some good news over the next week or two.

===

Daisuke Matsuzaka threw four change-ups during his bullpen session on Monday.

===

Tsuyoshi Nishioka stayed back after regular workouts for extra batting practice on Tuesday.  Rod Carew spent about twenty minutes giving Nishioka some tips on hitting (like staying back on the ball).

===

According to Sponichi, Hisashi Iwakuma threw close to 100 pitches on Sunday.

===

Assuming no problems, Tsuyoshi Wada could begin playing catch on Wednesday.

===

Norichika Aoki's workouts on Tuesday included fielding practice and batting practice.  Aoki also stayed back after general workouts for extra batting practice -- he wanted to review everything he learned during his earlier session.

The Japanese media is already getting excited about a possible Yu Darvish - Ichiro Suzuki match-up on March 12, in addition to April 9.

Darvish threw eighteen pitches in the bullpen in addition to the thirty-three he tossed during batting practice on Monday.

Tuesday workouts lasted about two hours and included playing catch and drills related to which bases players in the infield should be covering with baseballs hit to the outfield with runners on base.  Players also had their pictures taken before practices -- Darvish wore his white home uniforms and, at one point, a ten gallon hat.

Darvish is scheduled to toss his fourth batting practice on Thursday.  He is also slated to pitch an inning or two during an intra-squad game on March 2.
