Nikkan Sports round up for practices on Wednesday:

  • Yu Darvish threw thirty-six pitches during his fourth batting practice outing.
  • Seattle Mariners Intra-squad Game: Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted third, he went 1-for-3; Munenori Kawasaki entered the game partway through at second and went 1-for-1.
  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka stayed back after general workouts for extra batting practice.

According to Nikkan Sports, Kosuke Fukudome lives in the same apartment building as Robin Ventura.

Junichi Tazawa is scheduled to pitch in a game against Boston College on March 3 and against the Toronto Blue Jays on March 7.

On Tuesday, Tazawa faced two right-handed batters during batting practice and threw twenty-five pitches.

Ryota Igarashi threw thirty pitches, including off-speed pitches, in the bullpen on Wednesday.  He is currently scheduled to pitch in an exhibition game against the Toronto Blue Jays on March 3.

Koji Uehara got permission to hold off on playing catch on Tuesday, one day after he tossed a bullpen and pitched batting practice.

Yoshinori Tateyama tossed batting practice on Wednesday.  He is scheduled to pitch in an intra-squad game on March 2.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka was up at 5:30am on Wednesday and at the facilities after 6:00am.  He told reporters he wanted to get a few things done before the start of general workouts.  Nishioka also stayed back after general workouts for extra batting practice.

Hisashi Iwakuma threw thirty-eight pitches during his inning+ intra-squad outing on Tuesday.  It seems he may also have rushed himself a bit during his second inning of work as he was told by Miguel Olivo to maintain a better pitching tempo/rhythm.

According to Sponichi, of the nine batters Iwakuma faced, he recorded first strikes with two.  And of the thirty-eight pitches he threw, nineteen went for balls.

Iwakuma is scheduled to pitch in an exhibition game against the San Diego Padres on March 5.

Tsuyoshi Wada told reporters on Wednesday his left elbow was feeling better and that he was doing everything he was capable of doing.  Assuming every goes according to plan, Wada will be allowed to play catch on Thursday and will have his elbow re-examined on Friday.

Wei-Ying Chen tossed batting practice for the first time on Wednesday -- he threw thirty pitches, including off-speed pitches.  Chen is also scheduled to pitch one inning in an intra-squad game on March 3 and will make an appearance in an exhibition game against the Minnesota Twins on March 7.

Norichika Aoki took batting practice both before and after general workouts on Wednesday.  He used a baseball about 100 grams heavier than the usual baseball during soft-toss and took about 100 swings.

Yu Darvish confirmed signs for seven types of pitches with catcher Mike Napoli during a batting practice outing on Wednesday.

Darvish also threw twenty-two pitches in the bullpen.

Texas Rangers Sports Dietitian Amy Goodson told reporters on Tuesday that she planned to have the team prepare some rice and noodle dishes for Darvish.
