Batting Practice

Nick Stavinoha had his lower body examined at a Hiroshima hospital today and was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia.

Stavinoha has been taking things slow since he first started feeling tightness in his lower body back on February 23.

The media learned today that the Carp are thinking about spending their entire spring in Nichinan, Miyazaki next year because the stadium they use during the first half of spring camp (Okinawa Municipal Stadium) will be undergoing renovations.  Uruma, Okinawa was considered as an alternate spot, but the team apparently feels there are too many problems with the facilities.

1st round draft pick Yusuke Nomura is scheduled to pitch in Sunday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.

Daily Sports notes that Kenjiro Nomura decided to send Yoshihiro Maru and Masato Akamatsu to Ni-gun on the last day of spring camp on Wednesday (effective March 1).  Soichiro Amaya and Takahiro Iwamoto will remain with the Ichi-gun team.

Daily Sports also mentions that Nomura could go with an outfield of Tsubasa Aizawa in left, Jun Hirose in center, and either Ryuhei Matsuyama or Iwamoto in right.  But things are still very much in flux since Nomura plans to continue trying different things through to March 14 (a span of nine games).  After that, he will likely go with the core group of players he intends on naming to the opening day (from March 17 on, a span of seven games).

Tomonori Maeda and Kenta Maeda participated in Hiroshima Bank's "Hirogin: Let's support the Carp! Bank Account" PR event today.

Some batting stats, through Wednesday:

  • Akamatsu is 0-for-10 through five games
  • Maru is 1-for-10 through four games
