Nikkan Sports round up for practices on Friday:

  • Munenori Kawasaki started at short and batted first during an intra-squad game and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
  • Yu Darvish was the third pitcher used during an intra-squad game and faced four batters over a shutout inning of work.  He gave up one walk.  Yoshinori Tateyama tossed a shutout inning.  Koji Uehara gave up a run on two hits over an inning of work.

Exhibition Game from March 2:

Seattle Mariners 8 - Oakland A's 5
Munenori Kawasaki started at short and batted first.  He went 0-for-3: ground out to short, strikeout looking, strikeout looking.  He was removed from the game on defense in the 6th inning. (Sanspo)

Hiroki Kuroda will toss either two innings or throw thirty-five pitches during his outing against the Tampa Bay Rays on March 7.  He is also scheduled for either a bullpen session or batting practice on March 4.

===

Hisanori Takahashi tossed batting practice on Friday.  Still no timetable on when he will pitch in an exhibition game.

===

Yoshinori Tateyama and Koji Uehara made appearances in an intra-squad game on Friday.  Tateyama tossed a shutout inning and allowed one hit.  Uehara gave up a run on two hits (both triples) over an inning of work.  He also struck out two.

===

Team practices on Friday were light and short so Tsuyoshi Nishioka began his day early and stayed back for extra work.  He also spent some time going over video of his swing.

===

Norichika Aoki is tweaking his batting stance by keep his bat a little more level.  He is trying to focus on hitting more line drives.

Aoki will likely get into Sunday's exhibition game off the bench and play more innings than the players that were in the starting line-up.

===

Hisashi Iwakuma threw forty-one pitches in the bullpen on Friday.  He will pitch against the San Diego Padres on March 5.

===

Tsuyoshi Wada played catch for the second straight day on Friday and told reporters that his left elbow was not longer a problem.  The team will check on Wada on Saturday and then decide when he pitches his next bullpen session.

===

Hiroki Sanada attended a tryout with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday and did not pass.  Sanada was one of 122 players that tried out for the team (of which sixty-five were pitchers).  He did pass the first stage (bullpen) but did not make it into the final group of six (three pitchers) after tossing batting practice.
