Shingo Ono is trying to throw more fastballs: during his start on Saturday, he threw fifty threw pitches and about 40% were fastballs. Last season, only 2% of his pitches were fastballs.
It should be noted that Ono worked on the quality of his fastballs during spring camp by changing arm angles and found something that stuck.
TBS' Sunday Morning ran a segment on unique training methods from spring camp. Yoshifumi Okada made an appearance with his method of trying to hone his fielding skills by closing his eyes and "hearing" where the ball is hit.
Isao Harimoto, a commentator on the show, responded by saying, "This is not Zatoichi, players need to work on getting good jumps with their eyes open. There is no meaning to this exercise. [Okada] should polish his skills by focusing on more practical exercises."
