Hideki Kuriyama, Kensuke Tanaka, Dai-Kang Yoh, and Sho Nakata appeared at a press conference for a new TV commercial for Sapporo Nama Beer Kuro Label on Saturday.

7th round draft pick Takumi Oshima told reporters on Friday that he does not plan on visiting Sapporo's Susukino (entertainment district) until he makes it to the Ichi-gun roster.  That may end up taking a while since the coaches decided to send Oshima down to Ni-gun after he went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter against the Yakult Swallows on Saturday.

The Fighters invited officers from the Hokkaido Police Department to give the team a lecture on drug abuse prevention at a Sapporo Hotel on Friday.  About 100 members of the organization (coaches, players, and other staff) attended the lecture.

Going into Saturday's game, Kuriyama told reporters, perhaps partially in jest, that he wanted Yuki Saito to toss five shutout innings while allowing two hits.  Saito ended up allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits over five innings of work.  The opening day start was riding on Saturday's outing.  Whether or not Saito gets it will now depend on how Masaru Takeda does on Sunday.
