Ichiro Suzuki (SEA) started in right and batted third.  He went 1-for-3: ground out to the catcher, FC (picked off first), RBI double to left (run scored).  Ichiro was replaced on defense in the 7th inning. [Nikkan Sports]

Hideki Matsui swung the bat 300 or more times five days in a row, including 315 on Friday.  Matsui focused on weight training on Saturday.

Hiroki Kuroda has been going to sleep at 10pm every night in order to wake up at around 6am everyday in order to make the 7:30am workout sessions with the other pitchers.  The morning workout sessions include about an hour of strength training exercises.  He may need to change that schedule a little as his next start will be at 7:05pm against the Houston Astros (March 12).

Daisuke Matsuzaka threw forty-one pitches, including eight sliders and four change-ups, in the bullpen on Saturday.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka went 1-for-3 in a minor league practice game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.

Hisashi Iwakuma is slated to toss around seventy-five pitches over five innings during his next start (vs Milwaukee) on March 16.

Tsuyoshi Wada joined the other pitchers that were not pitching in exhibition games for light practices on Saturday.  Afterward, Wada also did some long distance throwing.

Yu Darvish faced two batted and threw forty-three pitches during batting practice on Saturday.

    I don’t see why. He plays good defense and so far he’s really hitting. That’s the Mariners, there’s not a lot of depth so based on his current performance, he should absolutely be in the roster. Can he do worse than Chone Figgins for instance ? Not sure.

    He has been penciled in as the M’s backup infielder since the start of spring. So far he has done well and I would expect him to make the team. I wouldn’t expect him to get much playing time and he will probably be displaced by prospects by 2013 if not mid-season. He should at least get to live his dream for a few months.

      I will too until he pitches in a real game, but it’s encouraging to see his sinker sat at 91 mph.
