Giancarlo Alvarado wants a shot at winning the opening day start.  When the team signed Alvarado, they knew he was going to attend his younger brother's wedding ceremony later this month and assumed he would make it back in time for the start of the season.  What they did not realize was that Alvarado wanted to make it back in time for opening day and purposely kept his trip back to Puerto Rico short (leaves March 22, returns March 25).

"I did not think he was going to make opening day, so this is good news," said Kiyoshi Nakahata.  "Alvarado's determination makes me happy.  Having him around from the start will make it easier to set the rotation."

A Kiyoshi Nakahata curry meal will be added to the Victory Court menu at Yokohama Stadium, beginning on April 3.

Nakahata spent about twenty minutes signing autographs after today's exhibition loss to the Softbank Hawks.

====== UPDATE 3/14 @ 12:45am

Pitching coach Yu Tomori told reporters on Monday that the team will call up four to five Ni-gun pitchers for their game against the Hanshin Tigers on March 15.
