Hiroki Kuroda (NYY) threw thirty-six pitches in the bullpen on Wednesday. About half of the pitches he threw were cut-fastballs. Kuroda also has plans to talk to Mariano Rivera about how to throw the cutter.
Daisuke Matsuzaka (BOS) is scheduled to toss batting practice on Wednesday.
Koji Uehara (TEX) shaved his facial hair after his outing on Tuesday and posted an image of himself at his blog.
Ryota Igarashi (PIT) told reporters on Wednesday that he has been too focused on improving his slider that he has not spent enough time working on his other pitches. As such, he plans to work on his other pitches, like the curve and change, during bullpen sessions moving forward.
Hisashi Iwakuma's (SEA) first regular season start might come during a four-game series against the Texas Rangers that begins on April 9.
Sanspo is carrying the following comments from Yu Darvish (likely taken during his press conference after his outing on Tuesday):
The batters that you walked, were they seeing your pitches well?
They were obviously balls. No one would swing at those pitches.
What kind of adjustments do you need to make?
I need to make adjustment during the game. I throw a lot of off-speed pitches, so I need to figure out which pitches are working each time.
You can not throw the ball around in front of the dugout in between innings...
A lot of pitchers have pitched over here [under these rules]. I am also one of those people so I need to adjust [to the rules]. I have no problem with that.
Partway through the 3rd inning, right around the fifty-pitch mark, the pitching coach visited the mound. What did he want?
He told me to do my best and believe in what I have. It was not about taking me out or anything.
You were not replaced mid-inning very often in Japan...
That is not something I am concerned about. If they want to take me out, I will go. If they want me to pitch, I will keep pitching.
Sponichi is also carrying some comments. I have grabbed the one comment that did not appear in the Sanspo version.
What was your goal for today's game?
It was the same as before. I did not really have a goal for the first two games. I just wanted to let my body pitch the way it wanted to pitch.
