Akinobu Okada admitted to reporters on Monday that he may have to reconsider Chihiro Kaneko as his opening day starter because of the various problems he has had: tightness in his upper right arm during a bullpen session on February 7, tightness in his arm on March 13, tightness in his back on March 16.
Okada spoke to reporters again today and it seems he is now planning on naming a new opening day starter.
If Okada decides to go with a new opening day starter, it could be Hayato Terahara. Terahara started today's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters and allowed a run over four innings of work. He does not have any more scheduled outings until the start of the season and will prepare by tossing bullpen sessions.
