Sanspo is carrying the following Q&A with Ichiro Suzuki:
Excitement levels were up even before the game started...
I wanted [to do something] to get them excited. It is too bad [I could not].
You took off your hat and bowed during player announcements...
It was just a feeling I had and I decided to go with it. There is an order to things. That should be obvious. I would never do things out of order (like take off my hat when there is no applause).
What are your thoughts about the game?
It made me feel like this was my country. That this is my country.
It was strange to see you with [Kenji] Jojima at first base.
Never happened before.
What do you think of Jojima playing first?
I did hear a number of things about it. I also met him once during the off-season. So I do have a basic understanding of what is happening and I have a certain amount of sentiment for that.
This was a friendly game, but you did record the first hit for either team.
I did not think of this as an exhibition game. It is not very often you can play baseball in this kind of environment. There are all kinds of tensions and this was probably one of the big scenes [in my life]. Time flies during these kinds of moment so I feel like I need to soak this up as best I can.
