Notes

Emi Takei threw out the ceremonial first pitch.  Takei also spent some time in the J Sports broadcast booth. ... Daola failed to land the back-flip (with twist) he attempted after the 7th inning.

Hiroshima: Kurihara broke up Yoshimi's perfect game bid with a lead-off single to center in the top of the 8th. ... Dobayashi made his Ichi-gun debut and collected his first Ichi-gun hit of his career in the 8th inning.

Chunichi: Iwase gave Takagi the game ball -- this was Takagi's first victory as manager since May 30, 1995. ... At forty-three years and four months, Yamasaki became the oldest player in the CL to bat fourth on opening day.

Hiroshima went with Bryan Bullington, Kam Mickolio, Dennis Sarfate, and Nick Stavinoha. Brian Barden was the odd man out.

It did not help that he also struggled at the plate.

      Exhibition Games: 13 G, 7-for-31, 13 SO, .226/.273/.290
      Ni-gun Games: 4 G, 1-for-12, 2 SO, .083/.214/.083

The Carp also probably felt they had enough options at third base: in addition to Dobayashi, there is also Matsuyama and Kokubo.
