Both teams combined to steal twelve bases, tying a PL high (Softbank seven, Rakuten five).  The original PL record was set on April 10, 1950 between Hankyu and Mainichi (six stolen bases for each team).  The pro yakyu record of eighteen combined stolen bases was set on October 24, 1936 (Tigers stole thirteen bases and DaiTokyo stolen five).  And the last time the Hawks stole at least seven bases in one game: May 31, 1996 vs Nippon Ham when they stole nine bases.  The Eagles tied a franchise high (fourth time).

Softbank: This was Okajima's first appearance in Japan since September 24, 2006.

Rakuten: Tomura recorded his first victory in his thirteenth career start.  He topped out at 145km/h. ... Heuser topped out at 147km/h.

Exhibit A on why you should strive to keep your quality, known pitchers instead of hoping on replacing them with an unknown, overpriced import.

Even with Sugiuchi gone – especially with Sugiuchi and Wada gone – they needed to hold on to Houlton.
