Games from April 5:

Pawtucket 4 - Buffalo 2 (AAA)
Junichi Tazawa (PAW) tossed two shutout innings in relief. Final line: 2 IP, 37-22 NP-S, 8 BF, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 0 HR, 1 WP.  He also topped out at 94mph (~151km/h). [Nikkan Sports]

Of the 856 players that will be on MLB rosters on opening day, thirteen will be Japanese players -- that's behind the US (243), the Dominican Republic (95), Venezuela (66), and Canada (15).

Hideki Matsui (FA) blames his poor numbers from last year (particularly before the All-Star break) for his inability to find a job with a team this season.

Hiroki Kuroda (NYY) worked out for about an hour at Tropicana Field on Thursday.  He also checked the mound after practices.

Hisanori Takahashi (LAA) threw twenty-one pitches in the bullpen on Thursday.

Yu Darvish (TEX) was caught a little off-guard when a reporter asked him during press conference on Wednesday to compare his former battery-mate Shinya Tsuruoka with his new battery-mates, Mike Napoli and Yorvit Torrealba.

His reply: "I did not think I would be asked about Tsuruoka-san here. ... I worked with Tsuruoka-san for seven years and it would be difficult for me to explain things here.  Napoli and Torrealba both have their strengths."
