The Buffaloes are playing it safe with Chihiro Kaneko and took him off the active roster on Saturday. He is expected to return after ten days for a start against the Softbank Hawks (at Kyocera Dome) on April 17.
The longest the Buffaloes have gone without a homer to start a season in franchise history: twenty-one games in 1946.
Kazuo Matsui played in a Ni-gun game against Yokohama on Saturday and went 1-for-2 with a stolen base. He was the starting DH and batted first.
Matsui is slated to play in another Ni-gun game on Monday and could also take the field. Assuming no setbacks, he might be able to return to the active roster as early as April 13.
