Nippon Ham, Seibu, Orix, Rakuten, Lotte: April 14, 2012

by on Apr.14, 2012 @ 2:47 pm, under NPB

Nippon Ham Fighters

Bobby Keppel still has some inflammation in his right shoulder and will not be allowed to throw for another two to three days.

Seibu Lions

The Lions held morning practices today that began at 8am today at Seibu Dome.  The team scheduled the workouts at the last minute because they knew there was a chance their game today would get rained out.

Orix Buffaloes

Kei Igawa will get a start during a three-game Ni-gun series against Hiroshima that begins on April 17 (two-three innings).  After that, he will likely pitch again on April 24 against Softbank (five innings) with the hope that he is ready to start an Ichi-gun game sometime on or around April 30 (vs Seibu at Kyocera Dome).

On Friday, Igawa threw eighty-two pitches during batting practice.

Rakuten Eagles

Senichi Hoshino recorded his 989th career managerial victory on Friday night and moved into sole possession of twelfth place on the All-time list.  Hoshino recorded his first victory with the Chunichi Dragons on April 12, 1987 (vs Yomiuri).

Chiba Lotte Marines

Josh Whitesell was taken off the active roster today.  That it happened after he clipped two catchers with his back-swing in two back-to-back games could be just a coincidence since he has also struggled a bit at the plate: he does not have a hit in his last seven trips to the plate and just two hits and eight strikeouts in his last eighteen trips to the plate.

Hmmm… interesting. Whitesell, the Gaijin, is taken off the roster despite hitting .237 so far this year.

Imae and Omatsu are left on the roster, despite hitting .194 and .176 respectively.

    Double-standard? Naaahhhhhhh…

Imae is not getting benched, are you crazy??? He’s the team captain!

There is no double standard here, geez. I hope you don’t look for anti-foreigner conspiracy theories in your everyday life.

My conspiracy theory – making a move to clear a roster spot for Vlad Guerrero ;)

Imae plays a crucial post in defense, Omatsu didn’t play today and, besides that, the explanations given by Gen are absolutely acceptable.
