Yakult Swallows

Lastings Milledge apparently decided on his own to drop down the bunt with a runner on second and no out in the 8th inning of Thursday night's game.

"We never would have given the bunt sign based on how the clean-up batter is hitting.  But Milledge was thinking about the team so I can not criticize him [for trying]," said Junji Ogawa.

Hanshin Tigers

Matt Murton became the ninth foreign player in franchise history to play in 300 games.


According to Nikkan Sports, TEQ: Kazuya Tsutsui (7th inning), Daiki Enokida (8th inning), Kyuji Fujikawa (9th inning).


Shinji Komiyama was hit in the head by Wladimir Balentien's (YAK) back-swing in the 9th inning of Thursday night's game.  Komiyama remained in the game and later told reporters his head was ok.


Akihito Fujii started taking batting practice at Naruohama on Thursday -- about forty-minutes, soft-toss and light hitting against a pitching machine.  He also spent about twenty-five minutes chasing fly balls in the outfield.

Fujii is scheduled to begin workouts as a catcher on Saturday and Sunday.


Hiroki Uemoto started playing catch at a distance of about twenty meters outdoors at Naruohama on Thursday.

Hiroshima Carp

Akihiro Higashide recorded his 250th career sac hit on Thursday against the Yokohama bay Stars and became the thirteenth player in NPB history to reach the milestone.  Higashide recorded his first sac hit on June 25, 1999 (vs Yomiuri).


Yuya Fukui told reporters after his victory Thursday night that he promised his brother he would win the game.

"Tomorrow will be the one-year anniversary of his death.  I promised him [a victory] when I went back home before the start of the season," said Fukui.

Yokohama Bay Stars

According to Sponichi, the Bay Stars are on pace to lose ninety-nine games this season.
