The Seibu Lions are celebrating Kazuhisa Inao's seventy-fifth birthday this year by retiring his number (twenty-four) and by playing a memorial game at Seibu Dome on July 1 (Nippon Ham Fighters). As part of the festivities on July 1, all Seibu players and coaches will wearing the number twenty-four.
The Lions will also be holding a ceremony in Fukuoka (former home ground for Nishitetsu Lions) when they play the Softbank Hawks at Yahoo Dome on July 4. All Seibu players and coaches will again wear the number twenty-four.
Inao passed away on November 13, 2007 at the age of seventy. He was voted into the Hall of Fame in 1993. In fourteen seasons with the Nishitetsu Lions (1956-1969), Inao went 276-137 over 756 games. He struck out 2,574 batters in 3,599 innings and had an ERA of 1.98. He still holds the record (tied with Victor Starffin 1939) for most wins during a season with forty-two in 1961.
