The Rangers decided to go with a six-man bullpen rather than shorten the bench in optioning Tateyama to the minors. They could have optioned Brandon Snyder, but Washington said he wanted his bench intact.
"(He took it) like a professional," manager Ron Washington said. "Tateyama is a pro. I don't think any player likes getting optioned out or sent down. But he didn't break anything. Everything is in order."
