Nippon Ham Fighters

The Fighters announced today that Terrmel Sledge will temporarily return to the US on Tuesday -- he is scheduled to have his left knee evaluated at a hospital in California on Thursday.  There is currently no set timetable for his return.  Source: Sponichi 6/18/2012, Nikkan Sports 6/18/2012


Sho Nakata extended his hitting streak to seven games on Sunday.  During the streak, he is 9-for-28 with three doubles, one triple, two walks, two RBI, five runs, and two strikeouts.

Rakuten Eagles

Yoshinao Kamata:

...is the ninth rookie drafted out of high school to record a victory in his first career outing against the Yomiuri Giants since Yoshinori Sato in 2008.  Only three other rookies drafted out of high school have recorded complete game victories against the Giants in their first year (since the start of the draft): Yutaka Enatsu in 1967, Shinichi Kondo in 1987, and Kenjiro Kawasaki in 1989.  He is also just the second rookie drafted out of high to record a complete game victory in his first career start against the Giants since Shinichi Kondo in 1987.

...tied Masahiro Tanaka for most Inter-league victories by a rookie drafted out of high school during the first year with three.

...is the first rookie drafted out of high school to begin his Ichi-gun career with three victories and no losses since Yuki Karakawa in 2008.
