Yakult Swallows

Shingo Kawabata told reporters after Saturday's game against the Hanshin Tigers that he should have been more aggressive when fielding Matt Murton's grounder in the 5th inning.  Source: Sponichi 7/1/2012

Murton reached on an infield hit and came around to score on a sac fly by Takashi Toritani.  The run put the Tigers up 5-4.

Wladimir Balentien is the fourth player in franchise history to become the first player to hit twenty homers in either league.  The other three: Larry Parrish in 1989, Thomas O'Malley in 1995, and Roberto Petagine in 1999.  He is also the first CL player to reach twenty homer mark before anyone else in the league, two years in a row, since Petagine in 2001, 2002.  Source: Sponichi 7/1/2012

Yomiuri Giants

Seiji Tahara started today's game and was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the 2nd inning (the Giants loaded the bases with no out and sent Kenji Yano in for Tahara).  Despite the short outing, the coaches were impressed with how Tahara handled himself on the mound.

"Side-arm pitchers need to know how to move in and out of the strike zone.  I think [Tahara] did well enough there.  He also had a good presence on the mound.  I do not know when, but I think he will have opportunities to prove himself as a starter," said pitching coach Kazuhisa Kawaguchi.  Source: Nikkan Sports 7/1/2012

Hanshin Tigers

Craig Brazell and Akihito Fujii both left today's Yakult game early: Brazell was hit by a pitch near his right elbow and replaced by a pinch-runner in the top of the 2nd; Fujii took a hard hit during a close play at home in the bottom of the 2nd and was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 4th.

Brazell and Fujii were examined at hospital and results for the players came back negative for any bone damage.  Brazell was diagnosed with a contusion on his right elbow while Fujii was diagnosed with a contusion on his right chest.

Both players are expected to be with the team on their road trip to Matsuyama.
