Yakult Swallows

The Swallows are planning to file a grievance against the umpires on behalf of Lastings Milledge.

"I wanted the umpires to take a more adult approach to this.  These kind of calls do nothing for the relationship between player and umpire.  I plan to raise this as an issue with other NPB teams," said Yakult Swallows' managing director Junsei Atarashi.

Junji Ogawa offered the following comment to reporters: "Players that work hard are going to have similar reactions.  I want umpires to act like adults."

Milledge served one-game suspension on Sunday after he was issued his second ejection of the year on Saturday for arguing balls and strikes.

The Swallows player's association will invite people affected by/connected to the Tohoku earthquake (like survivors, volunteers) to fifteen home games between July 25 and August 30.

Yomiuri Giants

Shinnosuke Abe likes to use training bats that are heavier and weighted differently than the one he uses during games -- his training bats (he is two kinds of bats: a Dae-Ho Lee and a Jonny Gomes) are between 970-980 grams and are weighted toward the bat head while his game bats were between 930-940 grams with the weight more evenly distributed.  Source: Nikkan Sports 7/9/2012

For workouts on Friday, Kanemoto took some soft-toss batting practice, followed by thirteen light swings in the batting cages.  He did not take fielding practice for the second straight day.

Said fielding/base-running general coach Koji Yamawaki, "It is not really tightness.  The muscles are just tensed up.  It is not that bad anymore.  I think he will be ready to go after the day off."

Tigers' owner Shinya Arai told reporters that now was not the time to think about making deals for new players because it was not the solution and would only lead to problems next season.  He also wants to have a sit down with Yutaka Wada (sometime around the All-Star break) to make sure everyone is on the same page.  Source: Sponichi 7/9/2012, Sanspo 7/9/2012, Nikkan Sports 7/9/2012, Daily Sports 7/9/2012
