Tony Blanco got treatment for the fracture in his second metacarpal (left hand) on Friday and is set to begin his rehab workouts today.  Blanco told reporters it was going to take three to four week for his bone to heal.  He also said he was disappointed about having to miss the home run derby.

Masahiro Araki was taken off the active roster with a left hamstring strain on Thursday but still plans to make his way into an All-Star game (pinch-hitter).

Yakult Swallows

Friday's rain-out pushed Shohei Tateyama's start to today.  That in turn took a start away from Masato Nakazawa.  Junji Ogawa told reporters that he will decide whether or not to keep Nakazawa on the active roster as an arm out of the bullpen, or send him down in exchange of a position player, some time before the Yokohama series (July 16-18).  Source: Sports Hochi 7/14/2012

The rain-out on Friday means Tomoaki Kanemoto may not have to miss any more games before the All-Star break.  Kanemoto was originally supposed to get one day off during the last nine games of the first half; he got that day off on Friday.  Source: Daily Sports 7/14/2012

Friday's rain-out also pushed Atsushi Nomi's next start to Sunday, which means Kazuhito Futagami loses his shot at his first Ichi-gun start.  Source: Sports Hochi 7/14/2012

Akihito Fujii (contusion on right chest area) started playing catch at the Naruohama facilities on Friday -- for about five minutes at a distance of about forty meters.  He also did some running.

Said Fujii, "I feel some throbbing when I throw the ball hard. ... [When running] there is less pain when there is less shock.  There is less shock when running sprints [because you take bigger strides and fewer steps]."

Fumihito Haraguchi (lower back) took some batting practice at the Naruohama training facilities and told reporters that the discomfort in his back was going away.  He also caught Hiroaki Saiuchi's bullpen session and did some throwing (from third and first).

Haraguchi first suffered the injury near the end of March.  He improved to a point in early May where he was able to attend general workouts, but a few days later had to return to a rehab menu because his back started acting up again.

The Tigers do know want a repeat of what happened in May and plan to be careful with Haraguchi this time around.

The Tigers are concerned about falling attendance records and are brainstorming ideas on how to pull fans out to games.  One thing they are considering right now is creating sections for families.  Source: Nikkan Sports 7/14/2012
