Chunichi Dragons

The Dragons became the first team in NPB history to field a line-up on Sunday that included three players in their forties batting in the three, four, and five slots: Kazuhiro Wada, Takeshi Yamasaki, Motonobu Tanishige.  Source: Sponichi 7/16/2012

Yomiuri Giants

Tatsunori Hara gave Tetsuya Yamaguchi the day off Sunday.  Shuichi Murata and Yoshinobu Takahashi were left out of the starting line-up to get some rest; Murata made it into the game as a pinch-hitter in the 9th and Takahashi entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 7th and later took over in left.  Source: Sanspo 7/15/2012, Daily Sports 7/16/2012

Hanshin Tigers

With Daiki Enokida hurt, there is a chance Robert Zarate will be added to the seventy-man roster sometime within the next couple of days.  Sponichi 7/16/2012

Ni-gun stats: 19 G, 21 IP, 80 BF, 21 IP, 14 H, 4 BB, 27 SO, 1 R, 0 ER.  Tops out at 153 km/h.

Sanspo notes that the Tigers currently have two spots open on the seventy-man roster.

Enokida will be withdrawing from the All-Star games.  That means he will also miss the first ten games of the second-half.  Source: Sponichi 7/16/2012, Nikkan Sports 7/16/2012

Something may be wrong with Atsuhi Nomi.

Yutaka Wada, when asked if he pulled Nomi early because of an accident:  "It was both (that and his slump).  [Nomi] did not pitch well today, could not even work through it.  He surrendered a hit to the pitcher, issued a walk, and then unsurprisingly gave up a run."

Nomi: "Is it health-related or not...  It is a general thing.  I think there might be some fatigue.  Lately, when I pitch, I just do not feel right.  It is a number of things, really.  I have not been able to put up any results either.  I need to do something about this."

It does not appear to be an injury or a cold.

Nomi was taken off the active roster today.  Note: the move may not really mean anything since we are close to the All-Star break.

Ryoma Matsuda made his first Ni-gun start on Sunday and gave up just one run over five innings of work against the Softbank Hawks.

Final line: 5 IP, 78 NP, 19 BF, 4 H, 5 SO, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 ER.  Topped out at 145km/h.

Despite a rough outing (7 IP, 35 BF, 123 NP, 10 H, 9 SO, 3 BB, 7 R, ER), Kiyoshi Nakahata is convinced that Yuki Kuniyoshi is destined for bigger and greater things.  Source: Sports Hochi 7/15/2012
