A couple of World Baseball Classic notes from the last couple of days:
- The first and second rounds could take place in Japan. This means Japan will play as many as seven games in Japan and two games in the US (semifinals and finals).
- There is a good chance that Cuba and China will be in the same group as Japan. One other team will make up the group.
- The final schedule/grouping will be released soon.
- The Japan Professional Baseball Players Association is scheduled to meet on July 20 and could issue an update on their participation plans.
UPDATE 7/20 @ 2:47pm - A little more (some of this was mentioned in the previous reports, but I failed to include them above): Japan, Cuba, China, and one other team will make up one group. The group will compete at a domed stadium in Japan during the first round.
A portion of the second round will be held in Japan, likely at Tokyo Dome, in double elimination format. Two groups of four teams will compete. The top two teams will go on to compete in the semifinals and finals in the US.
