Chiba Lotte Marines sign both Doug Mathis and Wil Ledezma

The Chiba Lotte Marines announced today that they signed both Doug Mathis (29) and Wil Ledezma (31).

Mathis has been assigned the number thirty-six, Ledezma the number forty-seven.

UPDATE @ 7:21pm - Ledezma signed a deal worth an estimated US$400,000 (~31M yen) and Mathis a deal worth an estimated US$150,000 (~12M yen).  Source: Nikkan Sports 7/27/2012

UPDATE 7/28 @ 7:47am - The Marines see Ledezma as a power reliever and Mathis as a finesse starter.  Mathis is expected to arrive in Japan in early August; no word on Ledezma.  Lotte is also hoping that Hayden Penn is ok.  Source: Sports Hochi 7/27/2012

    OK, I just can’t figure out they fit on the roster. Obviously Whitesell and Greisinger are staying and given his injury it seems Penn is gone. But that means Rosa will need to go too, right?

      Removing Rosa would seem to make the most amount of sense. And based on the reports I’ve read, Ledezma will most likely be a reliever, which means he could take Rosa’s role.

      They could also do some sort of weird rotation with all the pitchers. That could help keep Greisinger fresh for down the stretch — he hasn’t pitched a full season since 2009.
