Nippon Ham Fighters

According to Sports Hochi, Yuki Saito gave up five runs after he started using his slide-step in the 6th inning of Saturday's Ni-gun game against the Futures.

Said Ni-gun pitching coach Takeharu Kato, "[Saito] gets to worried about the runners running and he gets sloppy with his pitches.  It is dropping his level [of play].  He needs to become confident in his slide-step."

The Fighters announced on Monday that speed skater Miho Takagi will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on August 7 (vs Softbank at Obihiro).  Source: Nikkan Sports 8/6/2012

Rakuten Eagles

Masahiro Tanaka became the eighth player drafted out of high school to record six or more consecutive seasons of at least one hundred strikeouts, beginning with their first season, on Sunday.  He is also just the third pitcher -- behind Keishi Suzuki's thirteen seasons (1966-1978) and Yutaka Enatsu's ten season (1967-1976) -- to accomplish the feat since the start of the draft.
