Kenji Jojima was taken to the hospital after he hurt his left knee while playing defense in a Ni-gun game against Chunichi on Tuesday -- with a runner on second and two out in the 2nd inning, he reacted on a ball hit between first and second; he stopped partway in order to return to first, but lost his balance and fell. The Tigers announced today that Jojima was diagnosed with a strain in his left popliteus muscle. Team trainer Yasunori Gonda added that there were no issues with the meniscus or any of the surrounding ligaments and cartilage (which would be a good thing since he has had surgery for a meniscal tear in the past).
Jojima currently needs crutches in order to get around and will need to focus on resting his knee. His rehab schedule will be decided during a re-evaluation on August 28.
