According to Nikkan Sports, the Chunichi Dragons might try to convince Kosuke Fukudome to sign with their team by including a clause that guarantees some sort of coaching position with the team.

An unnamed team source is quoted as saying, "The manager says [Fukudome] is an important piece in improving the offense.  We also expect him to help lead the position players.  He is also someone we hope can help lead the team in the future."

Team owner Bungo Shirai told reporters on Monday that the Tigers might not be interested Fukudome.

Said Shirai, "I heard that the [Tigers'] new GM visited [Chunichi Shimbun headquarters] in Osaka the other day.  It is just something I heard in a daily report, but it sounds like Hanshin is not very interested [in Fukudome]. ... Although I am not really sure what reasons they might have for saying that."

Takashi Ide, head of team development, has already reportedly touched base with Fukudome.

Sports Hochi has a slightly different version of the quote from Shirai: "The price has apparently gone up because of all the [media] speculations. ... The new Hanshin GM does not seem to be too interested [in Fukudome].  I heard that he said something along those lines."  Source: Sports Hochi 9/25/2012
