Indeed. It was a typo on my part. I made a similar typo on the PL schedule as well. Both have since been fixed.

Gen-san, I want to say big thanks to you for another year of daily news in English about Japanese baseball. I can really follow the season, whereas it would be such a hassle without your site.
    Keep up the good work!

I’m a Yomiuri Giants’ fan and I’m glad to find this site different from the one of NPB, where I follow the scores. I visited Japan in 20002 when I had a chance to watch Yomiuri beating Seibu in the Japan Series. I only knew Mazda Zoom-Zoom Stadium since I stayed at Higashihiroshima (HIP, JICA). Now I can watch some games thanks to Internet. I had been rooting for Japan in the first two WBC and I expect Samurai Japan would get their third championship.
Yomiuri Giants is a great team this year and I think they’ll beat Chunichi Dragons in 2012 Climax Series and then they’ll beat the Pacific League winner too at Japan Series.

      Felix,
I am a fan of Yomiuri as well… they have been awesome this season and I see a Nippon Series Championship in their future!

I like it… It makes the regular season meaningful. Consider that the alternative was not having a playoff system at all and simply sending each league’s regular season champion to the Nippon Series. I think having an ‘unfair’ playoff system is the perfect combination of keeping the regular season games exciting and having a dramatic postseason.

For bizarre formats, how about KBO’s postseason? 4 out of 8 teams advance, round 1 is 3v4, round 2 is 2v the winner, round 3 is 1v the winner.

Or the CPBL – 4 team league, the season is split into halves, the winner of each half goes to the Taiwan Series. And if a team wins both halves they win the championship without a championship series even being played. Now that’s crazy, but for a league of 4 teams I can’t think of a better alternative.

I like that the NPB playoff system rewards regular season´s performances. Winning a pennant has to be meaningful. It can’t only mean you’re in playoffs.
Besides, I think nothing can be more stupid than a one wildcard game.

Dylan, I didn’t intend on challenging you… however if you’d like my explanation why don’t you expound on why it’s stupid first?

Ken, I’m waiting for you words of wisdom. I have played and followed baseball for over 50 years and I have lived in Japan for over 20 years, so I think I have a good understanding of both. Can you or Steve tell me what the essence or soul of baseball is?

Anybody who’s in FAVOR of this system obviously hasn’t played much sport in their life-time. You don’t need to hate the system, but you honestly can’t be in favor of it. Playing 6 let alone is just…, but to have 6-0 is just pure idiotic. I’ve grown to accept it, but that doesn’t mean it’s right. This isn’t a video game. At least make it 2-2-2 or something.

Well its not that bad .. guess we are used to the North American System.

I personally think the draft system is stupid.. each team can pick the same player in the first round and then they have a draw to see who wins.

Also.. hate the Giants… they have history of cheating when it comes to signing amateur players and influencing them when it comes to the draft. Case in point Sugano, Sawamura and Utsumi. The Yankees are better than the Giants.
