by on Oct.18, 2012 @ 6:14 am, under NPB

According to a report filed by Sanspo, Kyuji Fujikawa is planning to fly out to the US sometime in the not so distant future, most likely be to discuss conditions with agents Arn Tellem and Don Nomura and begin preliminary checks on possible MLB teams that might be interested in his services.

Over ten MLB teams could be interested in Fujikawa.  An unnamed MLB source has told reporters that he could get, at the very least, a two-year deal worth US$10M (~780M yen).

The Hanshin Tigers held a team/staff meeting at Koshien on Wednesday.  Even though core players like Takahiro Arai and Takashi Toritani were in attendance, Fujikawa was reportedly no where to be seen.

UPDATE @ 4:03pm - Nikkan Sports is also carrying a similar report about Fujikawa visiting the US in the near future -- he has already asked the Tigers and gotten their approval.  The Mariners, Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Orioles, Royals, Giants, Indians, Phillies, and Dodgers have all watched him pitch this season.  Source: Nikkan Sports 10/18/2012

In other Hanshin Tigers international FA related news...

Shinobu Fukuhara told reporters on Wednesday that he does not have any plans to meet the Hanshin Tigers any time soon and that he has not set any specific time limits on when he will make his decision.  Source: Sanspo 10/18/2012

When reporters asked Takashi Toritani if he had any comments about his future plans on Wednesday, he said he had nothing to say.  The Tigers plan to do what they can to keep him and Yutaka Wada may get involved if necessary.

"I am sure there are things [Toritani] is considering, especially since [FA options] are a right players win.  But I also want to tell him about our plans for this team.  I would like him to take that into consideration when he thinks about where he wants to play," said Wada.
